This role is an Exposure Manager position within Ascots Exposure Management Team, responsible for both exposure management and catastrophe modelling for the treaty classes of business across the Ascot Group.

The main objective of the role is to take responsibility for the day to day management of the treaty exposure management classes and add technical value to the team. The scope of the role includes significant interaction with Underwriting teams and other stakeholders across the syndicate and group, making communication skills a key skillset for the chosen candidate.

In addition to the above, the role includes maintaining and adding to Ascots high standards expected of Exposure Management.  Reporting across the group as well as externally to Lloyds and other regulars/rating agencies forms a key part of the requirements.

Main Duties

  • Take ownership of the day to day running of the Treaty exposure management responsibilities
  • Day to day management of the two junior members of the Treaty team reporting to and working with senior members of the exposure management team
  • Be part of the constant improvement and streamlining of exposure management capabilities and processes
  • Internal and external reporting of exposure and catastrophe loss positions demonstrating an in depth grasp of movements and materiality to the overall group position
  • Manage and own all Lloyds reporting from a Treaty perspective working with senior management on the overall completion of these reporting requirements
  • Participate and bring new ideas for constant improvement of Ascots CROF rating
  • Support own view of risk projects with technical skill
  • Work with senior members of exposure management on document writing and presenting of material to senior management and externally
  • Maintain an in-force portfolio and ensure the completeness and accuracy of the data and results across the group
  • Support the pricing and portfolio management for treaty

  • Participating in the wider activities of the Exposure Management Team as well as the overall Risk Function
  • From time to time, taking part in relevant projects throughout the wider business
  • Keeping up-to-date with technological developments applicable to our field
  • Performing other related duties to meet the on-going needs of the organisation

Key Competencies

Technical Skills     

  • Experienced catastrophe modeller with 5+ years’ experience
  • Demonstrable experience of US & International Treaty business
  • Management experience within a team
  • Comprehensive understanding of catastrophe modelling software such as AIR/RMS/Other catastrophe models
  • Strong computing skills: Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
  • Proficient in the use of MS SQL
  • Programming skills (Python, VBA, R) are not essential but highly desirable
  • Knowledge of BI software such as Power BI desirable
  • Knowledge of Sequel Impact desirable
  • Knowledge of AnalyzeRe desirable

Education and Qualifications


  • Educated to degree level in a numerical or natural hazards discipline is preferred


  • Other relevant professional qualifications (or progress towards) such as ACII, CRM or CCRA
