ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:

Underwriting:

  • Develop understanding of all LPL Underwriting Guidelines
  • Meet or exceed individual production goals in accordance with LPL Underwriting Guidelines and communicated internal and external goals/procedures established by senior management
  • Learn about Company structure, ratings and product mix to effectively communicate with producers about Ascot Group
  • Master IMS underwriting system
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with team producers
  • Communicate properly and timely with all producers regarding submissions and decisions for new or renewal business

Compliance:

  • Comply with the individual underwriting authority grant and/or seek required approval(s)
  • Meet all file documentation standards, including completed UW Notes and Raters, for every bound account by populating IMS
  • Participate in Peer Review process as required by Company protocols
  • Maintain high quality professional service to production partners in accordance with team Service Standards
  • Monitor production, hit ratios, renewal retention ratios spread of risk and other production and quality measures to minimize risk and predict future success
  • Review and handle policy servicing requests (e.g. endorsements; internal and/or external audits; Peer Reviews) timely and appropriately

Reporting:

  • Respond to all internal and/or external audit requests
  • Timely complete all assigned Peer Review requests
  • Complete Trip Reports for marketing activities
  • Interview candidates for team positions and provide written summary, including recommendations, to senior management

WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF SYSTEMS & SOFTWARE

  • IMS underwriting system
  • Outlook – use of Folders, Calendars and Contacts
  • Microsoft Office Suite – Excel, Word, PowerPoint

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • UNDERWRITER:

o             No direct experience required, but preference for 1 – 3 years insurance industry experience

o             Position located in central Connecticut (New Britain)

o             Travel to New York City and/or out of state 3 – 6 times a year

o             Team building skills critical

 

  • SENIOR UNDERWRITER:

o             3 – 8 years insurance industry experience (operations and/or underwriting is acceptable)

o             Position located in central Connecticut (New Britain) or Chicago

o             Frequent travel

o             Demonstrable insurance knowledge in the interview process

o             Preference for candidates with existing producer relationships

o             Team building skills critical
